Description

Gain a working knowledge of 18th Century Smallsword fighting as adapted for use on stage and screen. Smallsword is a light, fast, elegant and deadly style of fighting made famous in films such as “Dangerous Liaisons”.

This course is open to anyone. It is designed to introduce you to safe and effective techniques for fighting with a small sword in a theatrical production and will culminate with the Fight Performance Exam as adjudicated by the British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat (BASSC).

 

Detailed Description

Dates: Monday 23rd September – Monday 2nd December 2024.
Classes will take place every Monday evening from 6pm until 9pm.
The Fight Performance Exam itself will be held at the end of the course.
Regular attendance is essential.
COST IS: £175.00

The class sessions will cover many different technical skills and how to perform those techniques so that they are believable to an audience. Students will spend the first part of the course engaging in exercises to master the techniques and will then move on to studying the choreography for the Fight Performance Test.

You will need to wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and training shoes with a good grip. You may also wish to bring a notebook and something to write with.

Key Facts
This course is about developing your skills and learning the techniques and methods
involved when fighting with knives on stage. A constant emphasis will be placed on how to work in the safest and most controlled manner.

This is a practical course where teaching is done by instructor demonstration followed by students working in pairs. Students will be expected to engage in Q&A sessions with the tutor as part of the group learning process. A certain amount of physical and mental stamina is required.

It's a non accredited course.
