Design Research Methods 2022

 This course invites designers and non-designers to learn the essentials for conducting innovative research. The course focuses on qualitative data collection methods, qualitative data analysis methods, co-creation, and participatory research. The workshops can be joined online or on campus.

Course Description

In this course, you will develop research skills of direct relevance to design innovation practice, such as creative methods of collecting and generating data, creative sense-making of complex qualitative data, and effectively communicating the results of your research.

The course will enable you to strengthen your ideas with facts and data. And teach you the importance of collaboration and co-creation. You will acquire critical reading skills, critical thinking, ethics, and research methods with appropriate application in design.

On completion of the 3-weeks course, you will identify the appropriate network for your project, invite the right participants in your project, and make a compelling argument favouring your project.

Workshop 1 – Introduction: Research in everyday lives. (£125)

Workshop 2  – Coming up with a good research question, aims and objectives (£125)

Workshop 3  – All about methodology and frameworks: primary and secondary data (£125)

Workshop 4  –  Research considerations for data collection, data analysis (£125)

Workshop 5 -  Participatory design and co-creation (£125)

Workshop 6 – Writing a research proposal (£125)

Every Monday and Wednesday, 10 am – 1 pm, on MSTeams and on campus
